ASTIN Working Party: Individual Claim Development with Machine
Learning
Abstract:
The subject of the webinar will be the presentation of the work
accomplished by a team of people that met within the scope of an
ASTIN working party named Individual Claim Development with Machine
Learning. The main goal of the working party was to research the
field of machine learning in connection with reserving as
traditional actuarial work. Artificial neural networks were
implemented in a cascading triangular way similar to triangular
reserving methods, and the prediction results were compared with
results achieved by classical reserving methods. The findings offer
a better understanding of the possible complexity of the nature of
the claims, point out some weaknesses that traditional methods
might have, and indicate a strong potential for machine learning
algorithms.
SPEAKERS Bor Harej Bor Harej works as a Head of Strategic
Analysis in Non-life Actuarial department in Zavarovalnica Triglav
and has over 10 years of experience from Risk management and
Actuarial field. He studied mathematics at the Faculty of
Mathematics and Physics in Ljubljana and actuarial science at the
Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in UK. His expertise includes
capital modelling and Solvency 2 implementation and he is leading
the implementation of DFA model. Occasionally he holds lectures at
Faculty of Mathematics and Physics where he is a mentor to some
students. From this year on he is a president of Slovenian
Actuarial Association. In 2016 and 2017 he was leading the ASTIN
Working Party named Individual Claims Development with Machine
Learning where he cooperated with highly reputed academics and
practitioners.
