Web Session: "Deep Learning with a Focus on Text
Analysis" on 24/25 November 2022, 9:00-17:00 & 9:00-12:30
CET
|
|

Early Bird discount until tomorrow!
Deep learning (DL) pertains to the field of artificial
intelligence and is great at extracting and mastering the often
highly non-linear patterns of a given process, whatever this
process might be. The only main requirement is the availability of
a large amount of data that describes the behaviour of the process
under different conditions and a truckload of computational power.
However, since the price of data storage and the effort of sampling
data has dropped dramatically over the last years, and since
Moore's law on the increase of computational power does even
nowadays not show any signs of a slowdown, fitting deep learning
models that are able to produce extremely useful predictions are a
reality and this already for some years now.
The main purpose of this web session is to get the participants
acquainted with DL models, and applications on text analysis will
help achieving this. To this end, a healthy mix between theory and
practice will be provided, however, it is important to note that
some time will be spend to go through the theoretical foundations
of neural networks and hence DL, as the inner workings of these
models are a bit different from the ones of the classic statistical
models.
Your early-bird registration fee is € 450.00 plus
19% VAT until 13 October 2022. After this date,
the fee will be € 585.00 plus 19% VAT.

Web Session: "Introduction to Natural Catastrophe
Modelling" on 28 November 2022, 9:00-12:15 CET
|
|
|
|
Natural Catastrophe Models are a key ingredient for the
assessment of Nat Cat risk. Questions like "What losses do we
expect from catastrophic events on average?" and "What losses do we
need to expect in the worst case?" are becoming more and more
relevant, in particular considering climate change. Natural
Catastrophe Models try to answer these questions in a statistical
sense, and have for many years now become an important tool for the
assessment of (re-)insurance contracts. In this web session, we
will give a basic introduction to Nat Cat Modelling and its
applications.
During the web session, the basic components of a Nat Cat model
will be explained: Exposure data, the hazard, vulnerabilities, and
the financial model. Additionally, sources of uncertainty will be
discussed together with methods for quantification. After the first
part, we will build our own simple Nat Cat model in a hands-on case
study. Lastly, we will look in more detail at the results a model
can produce and how to use them for pricing in the reinsurance
context.
Your early-bird registration fee is € 150.00 plus
19% VAT until 17 October 2022. After this date,
the fee will be € 205.00 plus 19% VAT.

Web Session: "Actuarial Data Science Introplication" on
30 November - 1 December 2022, 9:00-17:00 & 9:00-16:30
CET
|
|
|
|
Introplication precisely defines the online program. We intend
to give a basic and somewhat deeper introduction, showing the most
important highlights from Actuarial Data Science and its
applications. We start at the very beginning, so no prior knowledge
is required.
In this two-day web session, we cover a wide range of topics from
the basic concepts of artificial intelligence and machine learning,
through modern data processing technologies and cloud computing, to
the mathematical and statistical concepts of data mining. On our
way, we will touch on important use cases in the actuarial
environment and deepen one or the other business case. To this end,
we provide a brief insight into the widely used languages (R,
Python) and development environments in the data science context
(RStudio, Anaconda) and take a look at innovative insurance
products based on individualized risk assessments (e.g. pay how you
drive). The online training will be rounded off with short and
concise reflections on data protection issues and principles for
the ethical handling of artificial intelligence in the insurance
environment.
Your early-bird registration fee is € 650.00 plus
19% VAT until 19 October 2022. After this date,
the fee will be € 845.00 plus 19% VAT.

Web Session: "CERA 0: A Refresher Course in Financial
Mathematics & Risk Measurement" on 5/6 December 2022,
9:00-15:45 CET
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The web session A Refresher Course in Financial
Mathematics gives an introduction to modern financial
mathematics and derivative pricing. It is designed to prepare
actuaries without adequate training in these fields for the
quantitative parts of the CERA education. The web session is
moreover an ideal learning opportunity for actuaries who want to
become acquainted with or refresh their knowledge in these highly
relevant fields.
The online course begins with a repetition of basic concepts in
probability theory including characteristics of random variables
such as moments and quantiles. In order to prepare the analysis of
dynamic financial models we introduce the idea of conditional
expectations and we discuss stochastic processes in discrete time.
The online session continues with an introduction to financial
mathematics. We study risk neutral valuation and the hedging of
derivatives in discrete-time models. The last part of the web
session is devoted an introduction to financial mathematics in
continuous time. Topics covered include stochastic processes in
continuous time such as Brownian motion and the Ito formula, the
Black Scholes model and the pricing and hedging of simple stock and
bond options. The web session consists of lectures interspersed by
short exercise sessions where participants can apply the
probabilistic techniques hands on.
Your early-bird registration fee is € 540.00 plus
19% VAT until 24 October 2022. After this date,
the fee will be € 600.00 plus 19% VAT.

Web Session: "Introduction to IFRS9 for Insurers" on 7
December 2022, 9:00-13:00 CET
|
|
|
|
Insurance companies are currently quite busy with IFRS17 and
devote relatively little attention to IFRS9, its equivalent on the
asset side that will go live simultaneously. The complexity of this
standard must however not be underestimated. If not only regular
bonds, but also some banking products, appear on the balance sheet,
IFRS9 poses quite some challenges.
To be well-prepared for this, we organise a half day training on
"IFRS9 modelling for insurers".
This training mainly deals with mathematics and statistics, but
related topics such as the IT implementation, accounting and
governance aspects will also be briefly discussed. Parallels
between actuarial work and IFRS9 modelling will be highlighted
where appropriate.
At the end of one afternoon, the participants will have a
high-level view on the IFRS9 standard as a whole and a good insight
in the modelling of expected credit losses and stage transfer under
IFRS9.
Your early-bird registration fee is € 200.00 plus
19% VAT until 26 October 2022. After this date,
the fee will be € 270.00 plus 19% VAT.
