So far, the industry focus when approaching to ESG risks, has
been mainly on climate change. However, climate risks and risks
associated with the loss of nature are closely intertwined.
The objective of this session is to describe what is the loss of
nature related risks for insurers, what are possible approaches to
manage those risks, the disclosure involved (e.g., ESRS, TNFD) and
to give a view on impacts, opportunities and recommendations for
the insurance sector.

framework. Actuarial topics which might be tackled in this process

The aim of this workshop is to:
- Present the functioning of an insurance
company and the insurance and financial products it manages
- Explain how to read and understand the
different elements of an insurance balance sheet and P&L
- Compute performance indicators used in
different regulatory frameworks (Local GAAP, Solvency 2)
- Understand the impact of pricing &
portfolio management, risk mitigation (reinsurance) and ALM on the
performance
We will cover life as well as non-life insurance. Health
insurance will not be specifically covered.
This training is an introduction to main concepts and is
therefore particularly suited for participants, coming potentially
from different departments (product development, risk management,
finance, accounting but also underwriting, claims management or
IT), wanting to develop a broader view on how their work can
influence the performance. It is also well suited for newcomers or
people wanting to refresh their minds on these concepts.

The web session will cover the guidance of IFRS 17 specific for
reinsurance contracts, explain their meaning and background, and
discuss practical challenges in implementing the guidance. Further,
some exemplary challenges arising from applying the general
guidance to reinsurance contracts, particularly more complex forms,
will be explained. The session will focus mainly on risk cessions,
i.e. P&C coverage.

Organized by the EAA - European Actuarial Academy GmbH in
cooperation with the Aktuarvereinigung Österreichs (AVÖ).

This seminar is part one of four courses (seminar and exam) to
obtain the additional title Certified Actuarial Data Scientist by
the AVÖ.
Participants who do not hold an AVÖ membership have also the
opportunity to obtain a newly established
EAA Certificate in Actuarial
Data Science

by taking part in all four modules and the corresponding exams. It
is planned to offer all four modules in 2024 and 2025.
All courses are open to interested actuaries to deepen their
knowledge and skills in the field of Actuarial Data Science
(without exams).
In this three-day seminar, we cover a wide range of topics. This
includes a basic introduction to the concepts and terms of
artificial intelligence, modern data management concepts (with a
special look at insurance companies), aspects of data protection
and the mathematical and statistical concepts of data mining. On
our way, we touch different use cases in the actuarial environment.
To this end, we provide a brief insight into the widely used
language R and development tools in the data science context
(RStudio, Anaconda). The seminar rounds off with principles for the
ethical handling of artificial intelligence in the insurance
environment.
