Web Session 'Actuarial Data Science -
Advanced'
on 12 - 14 September 2024
|
|
|
|
Organised by the EAA - European Actuarial Academy GmbH in
cooperation with the Aktuarvereinigung Österreichs (AVÖ).This
is part two of four courses (seminar and exam) to obtain the
additional title Certified Actuarial Data Scientist by the
AVÖ.Participants who do not hold an AVÖ membership have also the
opportunity to obtain a newly established
EAA Certificate in Actuarial Data
Science by taking part in all four modules and
the corresponding exams. All courses are open to interested
actuaries to deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of
Actuarial Data Science (without exams). In this three-day training,
we cover a wide range of topics. This includes an advanced
introduction to the concepts and terms of artificial intelligence,
modern data management concepts (with a special look at insurance
companies), aspects of data protection and the mathematical and
statistical concepts of data mining. On our way, we touch different
use cases in the actuarial environment. To this end, we provide a
brief insight into the widely used language Python. The training
rounds off with principles for the ethical handling of artificial
intelligence in the insurance environment.

Web Session 'Climate Change Scenarios in Context - A
Stress Testing Case Study'
on 9 October 2024
|
|
|
|
This session will have a practical focus around a case study in
order to illustrate not only the practical elements of stress
testing, but also discuss challenges and limitations and provide
context around the foundations surrounding the scenarios. We will
cover the following topics:
- Introduction to Climate Change Scenarios, context and
evolution
- Application in Stress Testing for Market Risk
- Interpretation of results, common limitations, and evolution of
scenarios
- Impacts and sensitivities of key assumptions
- Outlook - what's to come next on climate scenarios?

Web Session 'Predictive Modelling in the Insurance
Sector'
on 5 November 2024
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
During the session, we will provide an overview of how
predictive modelling works and highlight some of its applications
in the insurance sector. This will be followed by a demonstration
of a use case where these models were used to assist in pricing a
motor book. We will walk through the process from cleaning and
processing data, to analysing and fitting the model, and finally,
to finding insights and understanding the outputs. Additionally, we
will cover ideas on how to use those outputs to create a pricing
guide for policies. The aim of this session is to promote the use of
predictive modelling by introducing various applications and
advantages of employing such techniques to leverage data in the
insurance sector, thus aiding decision-making processes.Providing a
comprehensive overview of predictive modelling, including the types
of models applicable across various fields, and important
considerations when handling data and fitting a model.

Web Session 'Storytelling for
Actuaries'
on 25 November 2024
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
In today's data-driven world, actuaries play a crucial role in
explaining complex numbers and statistics to allow for informed
decisions. However, amidst the sea of data, the power of
storytelling often gets overlooked. In this immersive 4-hour
course, we invite actuaries to explore the art of storytelling and
discover how it can enhance their professional communication and
impact.By the end of this course, participants will emerge with a
newfound appreciation for the narrative dimension of their work,
equipped with practical tools to convey insights, drive
decision-making, and inspire action through the power of
storytelling.

Web Session 'Calculation of Life Insurance Products by
Means of Markov Chains'
on 27 November 2024
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The goal of this web session is to give participants an insight
into the Markov chain calculation approach in life insurance and
its implementation in modern administration systems. Using examples
specifically tailored to life insurance tariffs, participants will
also gain first practical experience with the Markov approach.
Finally, the theoretical and practical components of this web
session should enable them to also create and calculate new life
insurance tariffs or variations of existing products by using
Markov chains.

Web Session 'Mathematical Modelling for
Actuaries'
on 28/29 November 2024
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Actuaries are very experienced in modelling financial risks
either stemming from population dynamics or from random events.
Probability theory and statistics is their daily bread. But there
are many other phenomena out in the world without having a direct
financial impact but should be understood by actuaries as well.
This web session is about models which typically are not covered in
full by actuarial exams, but which could bring better insights to
risks actuaries have to price. We will show very general approaches
to set up models with applications from many different areas,
whether it is medicine, construction, meteorology, biology or
others. Of course, this web session can only be seen as an
introduction into modelling and cannot cover all interesting
models, but it should enable participants to find more in
literature or develop their own ideas. The purpose of the online
training is to open the mind for problems which are by nature not
actuarial but are very much linked to typical actuarial questions.
It should enable actuaries and risk managers to think out of the
box and find new ways to solve their challenges.
