Web Session 'System Migrations of Life Insurance Contracts:
DON'T JUST MIGRATE'

4 November 2024

The art of migrating is to ensure that ultimately all parties involved benefit from it. After the migration, the life insurer should be able to offer a preferably better service at a preferably lower management cost. During the web session, the aforementioned will be concretely illustrated based on a migration of a very diverse classic life insurance portfolio. We will go over the different steps in a migration project and demonstrate how this portfolio can be migrated to a modern generic cash-flow-driven management platform, and at the same time the life insurance policies can also be renewed. Participants will understand that the underlying renewal is fundamental to make the migration a real success: both for the insurer and for the policyholders and beneficiaries.

Web Session 'Emerging Risks: Statistical Analysis and Scenario Building'
6/7 November 2024

In a context of widespread instability, the actuarial analysis of emerging risks takes on particular importance to facilitate the adaptation of insurance to these profound changes. Whether it be old risks with poorly anticipated consequences (such as the epidemiological risk), risks undergoing strong and worrying evolution (such as climate risk), or more recent risks (such as cyber risk), the task of actuaries is particularly delicate. The lack of data is notably a hindrance to a rigorous approach to these important questions. This session aims to lay the groundwork for a scientific approach to this problem and to introduce some tools for discussing the insurability of these new risks.

The web session will explore the multifaceted relationship between AI, society, culture, ethics, and how we live and work. There will be an emphasis on the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in AI development and use. Web Session 'Artificial Intelligence Act: The Insurance Fallout - Overview'
12 November 2024

Not many legislations are as controversial as the impending EU Artificial Intelligence Act, that will regulate the usage of Machine Learning and Deep Learning methods within the European Union's economic area. The purpose of this session is to introduce the relevant aspects of regulation, timelines and consequences with respect to the actuarial practice. Starting from the study of relevant articles of the AI Act draft, we will develop an understanding of the impending consequences and likely interpretations of the legal framework.

 Web Session 'Socio-Economic Mortality Curves'
13 November 2024

Typically, several statistical agencies provide mortality curves differentiated on gender per country. However, it has been documented that people's mortality prospects differ beyond their differences in gender. Income, education, job type, etc might all have an impact on mortality. In this online training, we present how such distinctive characteristics can be considered in a mortality model, empirical results and the implications for retirement products valuations.

Web Session 'Hands-on Adaptive Learning of GLMs for Risk Modelling in R'
14/15 November 2024

During the web session, we will first explore the theoretical foundations of both the bias-variance trade-off in predictive modelling and general GLM regularisation. We will then study the explicit design of the algorithm. The remainder will be hands-on as we provide extensive code that implements the algorithm in the statistical programming language R. We will discuss and run the code using a realistic case study in actuarial claims frequency modelling. You will learn how to use the programme and apply the algorithm to non-life claims data for pricing. Further focus will be on the visualisation of the results, especially on the insights gained from the learned meta-results of the algorithm.

The session aims to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction regarding the risk adjustment concept under IFRS 17. We will shed light on the general concepts behind risk adjustment and its application within IFRS 17 and illustrate the importance of risk adjustment in measuring, presenting, and disclosing insurance contracts. The online training will also provide insights into the most commonly used practical methodical concepts. Practical examples and case studies will be used to illustrate the application of risk adjustment within the IFRS 17 framework. In addition, insights into emerging market views will be shared, and participants will have the opportunity to discuss these topics.
