Dear ASTIN Section members,
On Tuesday, June 30th, a webinar will be presented to members on
"Solvency II - Regulation written for Actuaries?" The introduction
of Solvency II has been one of the biggest changes in insurance
regulation we have ever had. Somewhat cynically, it has been argued
that it is regulation written for actuaries, but is it really? In
this talk Sue will cover the key SII requirements and what they
mean for actuaries both in the roles we adopt and the challenges,
technical and other, that we face. Has it really been to our
benefit? How can we make sure that we, as actuaries, continue to
add value to the companies we work with in the new regulatory
environment. What are the risks for us in the new environment and
how can we counter these? In answering these questions, Sue will
consider how the implementation of Solvency II has developed over
the last few years and how we might see it develop in the
future.
Speaker: Susan Dreksler,
Associate Director, PwC Susan has worked for PwC since 1998. She is
an actuary specialising in reserving, Solvency II and IFRS 4 Phase
II for health and general insurers. Susan has helped a wide range
of insurers to implement different facets of Solvency II. A few
years ago, she designed and implemented a process for estimating
Solvency II Technical Provisions for a large personal lines
insurer. Since then she has provided technical support on many
balance sheet reviews and day-to-day IMAP advice - helping
management to understand the Solvency II requirements, providing
review and challenge and working with insurers to make sure they do
enough to meet the Solvency II requirements.
She is a regular speaker at industry events on reserving issues,
Solvency II and IFRS II. Susan chaired the Institute and Faculty of
Actuaries' Working Party on Solvency II Technical Provisions that
wrote the paper 'Solvency II Technical Provisions for General
Insurers'. This paper has been recommended by the PRA to reserving
teams and wider staff as it is "very insightful and progresses
thinking on difficult issues". She now chairs the Institute's GI
Reserving Oversight Committee.
