News from the
AAE
In memoriam: Ad Kok
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the
passing of Ad Kok.
Ad was a longstanding and esteemed member of the AAE (formerly
Groupe Consultatif), where he held various pivotal roles,
including Chairperson in 2007-2008 and Chairperson of the Freedoms
Committee (now the Professionalism Committee) from 2002-2006.
Serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the AAE from 2013 to
2019, Ad's dedication to the development of the actuarial
profession was exemplary.
In recognition of his unwavering commitment, he was elected as an
Honorary Member in 2021.
Ad's influence extended well beyond our organization; he was
widely respected in the international actuarial community and
earned honorary memberships from IFoA (Hon FIA) and the Royal Dutch
Actuarial Association (erelid).
We extend our deepest condolences to Ad's family and loved ones as
they navigate this profound loss.
Ad will be remembered as a gentle and capable man, and his absence
leaves a void that will be deeply felt.
AAE webinar 'Actuaries as Data Scientists: how our
Professionalism and Training keeps us ahead', 29 November

AAE Social Security Forum, 2 November 2023
The Social Security Forum was enthusiastically attended by over
260 participants from 45 countries.

AAE Strategic Meeting, Brussels, 24 November
2023
The Board and Committee chairs, pictured below with the AAE
Secretariat, convened in Brussels for a highly engaging strategic
meeting. Henning Wergen, facing travel constraints, actively
participated via online channels.
Scheduled meetings with stakeholders
- On 5 December 2023, the AAE met with
Pensions Europe.
- On 14 December 2023, the AAE leadership
will meet with Petra Hielkema, chair EIOPA.
- On 20 December 2023, the AAE will meet
with Insurance Europe.

The different sections of the IAA (AFIR-ERM, ASTIN, IAAHS,
IAALS, IACA, and PBSS) will host the very 1st Joint Colloquium of
all IAA Sections (JoCo2024) in Brussels.
The Institute of Actuaries in Belgium (IA|BE) invites all
actuaries and section members from all around the world, as well as
actuarial students, to discuss the latest research and actuarial
challenges arising from new fields of professional and academic

- 11 April 2024, Conference in
Celebration of David Wilkie's 90th Birthday, in-person
only,
Professor David Wilkie was at one time an active
member of the Groupe Consultatif, the predecessor of the
AAE. David reaches his 90th birthday next year, and a
Conference to commemorate this is being held at York University,
England, on 11 April 2024. Please see the webpage for more details.
